Biogen IDEC Building 26
Contract Amount = $6,000,000
Biogen IDEC Building 26 allows for the consolidation of patient services and administrative offices and opens up space for Biogen to expand lab and research space in the Research Triangle Park. The 180,000
square-foot building has two wings; one with five floors of office space and the other, two-story building with a cafeteria, exercise facility, locker rooms, and conference rooms. Some of the research in this facility
will focus on Multiple Sclerosis, ALS, and Hemophilia. The project is rated LEED Gold by the U.S. Green Building Council. As such, the HVAC system put in place is an energy-efficient Daikin Variable Refrigerant Volume (VRV) system that
provides considerable flexibility, requires less ductwork, reduces HVAC electrical requirements, and offers quiet operation. The VRV system allowed for the elimination of much of the equipment room space, which increased
Biogen's usable space. The 584-ton VRV system at Biogen was the largest Daikin installation to date in the state of North Carolina. Kirlin-Way Mechanical was very proud to be the mechanical contractor chosen to participate
in the construction of this state-of-the-art building.
