United Therapeutics Phase II Facility Expansion

Kirlin-Way Mechanical provided the mechanical and plumbing systems for the United Therapeutics Phase II facility expansion, constructed in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina. The project is a three-level, 185,500 square-foot pharmaceutical facility addition with five-level parking garage. The expansion to the existing facility included additional office, day care, manufacturing, and warehouses uses. The HVAC and Plumbing scope of work included the installation of custom-built air handling units, a storm water harvesting system and critical high purity piping. Manufacturing critical support systems include a GMP and ASME BPE compliant RO generation and distribution system for steam humidification, compressed dry air distribution, process waste PH neutralization system, equipment and containment. The scope of Kirlin-Way Mechanical's work also included the expansion of the facility's central unit plant and associated tie-in work. The value of the mechanical contract is $7,300,000. Rigid construction scheduling required designated building column blocked areas to be fit out vertically as structural steel was been set in the adjoining column block. The coordinated modeling of building services with the construction management group and other subcontractors was essential in maintaining this schedule.
